Traveling With Temporary Teeth: Provisionals, Repairs and the Flight Home

What to clarify before flying home with a temporary crown, bridge or full-arch provisional, including diet, breakage plans and final-restoration timing.

Updated September 13, 2026 · Independent trip-planning information · Not dental advice

“I leave with teeth” is not the same as “I leave with the final restoration.” Temporary crowns and full-arch provisionals can be an intentional part of treatment, but they need a clear maintenance and failure plan when you are crossing borders.

Ask exactly what you are leaving with

  • Temporary crown, temporary bridge or fixed full-arch provisional?
  • Material used?
  • Expected service period?
  • Diet restrictions?
  • What signs mean call the clinic immediately?
  • When and where the final restoration is made?

Know the repair pathway before the airport

If the temporary chips, loosens or fractures at home, ask whether a local dentist can repair it, whether the Colombia clinic needs to authorize anything, and whether parts or design files can be shared. Do not wait for a break to discover that nobody knows the material or implant system.

Take final photos and records

Ask the clinic to document what was delivered and any special cleaning or diet instructions. For implant-supported provisionals, keep the implant system and component information with your treatment records.

Do not confuse comfort problems with “just getting used to it”

Some adjustment is normal with new dentistry, but persistent pain, a loose restoration, worsening swelling, fever, pus or other concerning symptoms deserve prompt professional evaluation. Contact the treating team and seek local care when needed.

Travel testBefore leaving, eat, speak and follow the cleaning routine your clinic expects. If something feels wrong, the cheapest place to fix it is usually while you are still near the treating team.
Prices, savings, and quote ranges shown here are estimates only. They are for planning and comparison and are not a diagnosis or a case-specific treatment quote. Your actual treatment price can change based on your examination, imaging, tooth prognosis, bone or grafting needs, implant/restorative system, materials, sedation, and treatment sequence. WhatsApp Andy for a real case-specific quote and send your treatment plan, written estimate, X-rays/CBCT, or photos if you already have them.

Turn the treatment plan into a real trip.

Send the procedure, city you are considering, and the dates you have in mind. We can help you think through the trip length, second-trip risk, lodging and logistics. For clinical decisions, your treating dentist remains the decision-maker.

Frequently asked questions

Is a PMMA full-arch bridge final?

Often PMMA/acrylic is used as a provisional or interim restoration, though designs vary. Ask the clinic to label the prosthesis clearly.

Can a U.S. dentist repair my temporary?

Possibly, but willingness, materials and implant components vary. Get records and ask your destination clinic how local repairs should be handled.

Should I fly home the same day the temporary is delivered?

A buffer allows time for bite and comfort issues to appear while you are still near the clinic. Ask the treating team for its preferred departure timing.
